Software companies vs service agencies
| Model | What you get | Typical cost | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software product (self-serve) | A tool you run — search, autofill, tracking, outreach | Free tier to a few hundred rupees a month | You want leverage but keep judgement over what gets sent |
| Managed / done-for-you service | A human applies and sometimes writes outreach for you | Monthly retainer, or a percentage of first-year CTC | You have no time at all and a high enough salary to justify it |
| Recruitment consultancy | A recruiter places you into roles they already have mandates for | Paid by the employer, not you | Your profile matches roles they are already hiring for |
| Resume writing service | A rewritten CV, not applications | One-off fee | Your resume is the bottleneck, not your volume |
Companies building job application automation for India
The India-relevant set is smaller than the global one, because covering Indian boards is real engineering work that most overseas vendors have not done.
| Company | Type | India board coverage | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apply Ops | Software, India-built | LinkedIn, Naukri, Instahyre, Wellfound, Shine and others | Resume-matched multi-board search, verified apply links, Gmail recruiter outreach, tracking |
| Jobscan | Software, US | Board-agnostic | ATS keyword scoring for a single job description |
| Teal / Huntr | Software, US | Board-agnostic bookmarklet | Application tracking and resume version management |
| Simplify | Software, US | Strong on US ATS, thin on Indian boards | One-click autofill across Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby |
| LazyApply / LoopCV | Software, global | LinkedIn and Indeed focused | Bulk automated application submission |
| Local career consultancies | Service | Varies by consultant | Human-run applying and profile marketing, often bundled with resume writing |
Why the agency model rarely works out
A done-for-you service sounds like the obvious answer if your problem is time. Three things usually undo it.
- The screening questions are yours to answer. Notice period, expected CTC, visa status, willingness to relocate, why this company — an agent guessing at these produces a worse application than you would in five minutes.
- Volume is not the constraint. Most candidates are not losing out because they applied to forty roles instead of four hundred. They are losing out because nobody read the forty.
- The cost structure is upside-down. A retainer or a slice of first-year CTC is a large sum to spend on the cheapest part of the process, when the expensive part — being noticed by the hiring manager — is not delivered.
Managed services genuinely earn their fee for senior and leadership searches, where the work is warm introductions and market mapping rather than form-filling. That is a headhunter, not a job application automation agency.

See Apply OpsWhat to ask before paying anyone
- Which Indian boards are covered by name? If Naukri and Instahyre are not on the list, a large share of the market is invisible to the tool.
- Who answers the screening questions? If it is not you, expect a lower conversion rate.
- Is outreach included, or only applications? The reply usually comes from the email, not the portal.
- What is the refund or exit position? Retainer services with long lock-ins are a poor fit for a search that could end in three weeks.
- Is there a free tier to test with? Any software vendor confident in the product will let you run a real search before paying.
About Apply Ops
Apply Ops is an India-based product company building job search automation for candidates. You upload a resume once; each search sweeps the boards you select and returns a ranked shortlist of live roles with full descriptions and apply links that have been verified before you see them.
The Chrome extension adds outreach: a sidebar in Gmail that finds and verifies the right contact at a company, fills a template generated from your own resume, and schedules sends and follow-ups in your timezone. It does not submit applications for you — you read the posting and apply on the original board.
Pricing is credit-based: 25 credits free with no card, ₹399 for 200 credits, ₹799 for 500, and a custom enterprise tier.
